How did a boy from Šibenik become a basketball legend admired by the entire world? The answer comes through the multi-award-winning play “DraĹľen”, a theatre hit for children and young audiences performing this weekend at Trešnja Theatre!

📍 Trešnja Theatre, Zagreb
Inspired by real events from the life of DraĹľen Petrović, the play takes the audience through his childhood, first steps in sports, and the incredible perseverance that led him to the top of the basketball world. Through emotional and dynamic scenes, it highlights the power of hard work, discipline, and self-belief – values that continue to inspire generations of young athletes today.
Although he is now remembered as a symbol of success and talent, DraĹľen was not a “wonder child.” He was stubborn, clumsy, and tirelessly persistent – a boy who never gave up. That is exactly why his story leaves such a strong impression on audiences of all generations.
Directed by Paško Vukasović, the cast includes:
Toni Kukuljica, Matija ÄŚigir, Silvio Mumelaš, Daria Knez Rukavina, Krunoslav KlabuÄŤar, Kruno Bakota, Tvrtko Jurić, Dubravka Lelas, Lucija Rukavina, and Luka Bulović.
The play “DraĹľen” won the 2023 Croatian Theatre Award for Best Children and Youth Play, while Toni Kukuljica received a nomination for Best Male Performance.
One of DraĹľen’s most memorable quotes remains:
“I respected talent until the age of 16. After that, I turned to hard work.”
