Šoltanka (local woman from Šolta) takes you on a journey through the fields of Šolta, to the village well, while recounting stories and everyday life situations of her neighbors and her own.
An interpretive walk with Šoltanka, who goes to fetch water for her household’s daily needs, takes place under the open sky in the center of Grohote, on the edge of the fertile Šolta field. This time-travel walk takes you exactly 100 years back, to a time when the island was experiencing its own renaissance, with over 3,500 people living on it.
She will reveal local landmarks in the center of the village and share what women of her time carried on their heads, as she prepares for her upcoming wedding. You’ll hear firsthand what that experience was like — and even try it yourself! You’ll also get a chance to “draw” water from the village well, learn about the production of the famous Šolta lime, and how young brides prepared for their big day.
Follow Šoltanka to the water!
